Duxford is Europe's premier aviation museum - as well as having one of the finest exhibit collections in the country.
This famous heritage site began as an airfield in the First World War and also played a vital role in the Second World War, firstly as an RAF fighter station and later as an American fighter base.

Today the Imperial War Museum hosts three main areas
AirSpace is the story of British and Commonwealth aviation. Since the pioneering days of flight, Britain and the Commonwealth have played a major role in the field of aircraft development. The Aircraft Hall contains over 30 historic British and Commonwealth aircraft, including military and civil types.
The Exhibitions Gallery is a fun and interactive family exhibition, with displays for all ages and all levels of interest. It provides an introduction both to the aircraft in AirSpace and to some of the themes you can explore elsewhere at Duxford.
The American Air Museum in Britain stands as a memorial to the 30,000 American airmen who gave their lives flying from UK bases in defence of liberty during the Second World War, and also honours those who fought in Korea, Vietnam, Libya, Iraq and other conflicts and battles of the 20th and 21st centuries.
This outstanding example of contemporary British architecture houses the largest collection of American warbirds on display outside the United States, including a vintage B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, B-25 Mitchell, P-47 Thunderbolt, and aircraft from the Cold War era such as a B-52 Stratofortress, SR-71 Blackbird and F-4 Phantom, with many suspended from the ceiling as if in flight.
Land Warfare Hall houses the majority of the Imperial War Museum’s collection of military vehicles, reflecting the technological advances in twentieth century warfare.
Exhibits are arranged in realistic tableaux, taking the visitor on a journey from the First World War to the Gulf War and beyond. Several of the vehicles in this exhibition are maintained in running condition and can sometimes be seen in the vehicle running area behind the Hall.
